Operation Pied Piper

This was the secret code name given to the British Government’s Scheme for the evacuation of children during the Second World War.

War Memorials In London

  • The most important is the Cenotaph located in Whitehall, where those members of the Armed Forces who died for their country are commemorated each year on Remembrance Sunday. This is an event at which the Evacuees Reunion Association has been represented for many years.
  • An evocative World War Two Memorial is dedicated to the Battle of Britain pilots and is located on the Embankment in Central London.
  • Another in Whitehall remembers ‘Women in War’.
  • Situated in Park Lane, a monument pays tribute to the part that animals have played throughout many wars.

There is One Memorial Missing

The Government’s Evacuation Project involved the movement of more than three million people during World War Two to places of safety, enabling important war work to be done by their parents.

By keeping the children safe the Government was well aware they were investing in the nation’s future.

The Evacuees Reunion Association is proud to announce Maurice Blik ATC PPRBS FRSA as the artist chosen to create this memorial. His maquette (scale model) of the monument is shown here.
